Hiking in Nanaimo

June 25
22 weeks

You know you're pregnant when... you not only hate to bend down to get things, but when you ARE bent down you try to figure out if there is anything else you should pick up while you are there!

This was a great week. Little PJ has been kicking lots, and I think I might have even felt some hiccups yesterday! I was out for a walk today and a lady asked me 'far along' I was. It took me a second to realize what she was asking! It was obviously my first encounter with a curious stranger... thankfully she didn't go in for a random belly rub.

I have been having terrible sciatic pain in my right hip. Today when Sheldon and I got home I was grabbing something out of the backseat of the car and I kinda got stuck in a half bent over position. I plan on trying to find a prenatal yoga video to help stretch it out!

Sheldon had Wednesday morning off so we took advantage of some gorgeous weather and did a hike in Golden Ears provincial park. I found a toad friend and Sheldon misjudged the depth of a mud puddle. It's nice that I am feeling well enough to stay so active. I am hoping I can continue to stay active and perhaps I will only gain baby, and not too much 'extra'.

The toad buddy I found

The mud was deeper than he thought!

Sheldon and I went to Nanaimo to visit my parents this weekend. We did a really cool hike to see something that the locals call the 'Abyss'. It was formed by an earthquake and is literally the earth splitting. It was really nice for the two of us to get out together, the weeks can be so busy, and hiking always gives us a chance to catch up, count squirrels, and of course daydream about PJ!!!

 Feeling good on the hike

After the hike we headed back to my parents place to sit on the deck, enjoy the sun and the good company! It's times like these we wish we had more Phieffer family close to enjoy a nice sunny day with! Miss you guys, and can't wait to see you in a few weeks!!

Grandma!!!

A great weekend daydreamin' about PJ!

21 weeks - Right on track

June 19
21 weeks plus a few days :)

You know you're pregnant when... you look forward to your medical appointments!

We had another great visit with the midwife yesterday. She was going over all our ultrasound information. PJ is measuring right on track, and all the bits and pieces were good. I had also had a physical and topped the healthy metre! I've gained 13 pounds so far, a bit above the average of 10 pounds, but my midwife was happy with it, especially since I started at such a healthy weight.

I had a few braxton hicks contractions on Sunday, and got a bit worried, but after a phone call to my midwife she said, although it's a bit early for most, it's not uncommon. I have been drinking more water, and listening to my body when it needs a break.

Last night after one of my many bathroom breaks, I crawled back into bed and just as I was getting comfortable PJ decided it was time to practice his ninja moves! To be perfectly honest I stayed awake laying there enjoying the little jabs. About an hour later PJ finally settled down and I fell back asleep.

We have found a used crib for an extremely good price and Sheldon is going to pick it up after work on Thursday. After that purchase I decided I needed some bedding, so I went through over 20 pages of crib sheets on Etsy to find something gender neutral. Finally found one we liked, emailed her, and guess what... it's out of stock! So the search continues...

We are planning a camping trip this weekend, trying to figure out what I will sleep on because our backcountry Thermarests are no longer cozy enough for my growing tummy. I think we have decided to use our blow up mattress and our summer tent, and hope it doesn't rain too much :)

Night Ninja

PJ has a new nickname as of this week... Night Ninja!

PJ seems to get most active during the evenings, watching TV, or recently we have been watching the TV series Breaking Bad on our computer in bed, and our little Night Ninja usually has a good kick around at this time. I find if anything is laying or resting on my stomach, like the laptop or a book, PJ gets a big kicky as if saying 'stop crowding me!' Sheldon was even lucky enough to feel one of the bigger kicks the other day, and I think he was quite surprised at the strength. For the most part they aren't quite strong enough for him to feel, and it's me that's left questioning what PJ is up to in there. Could it be another head stand like we saw displayed in the ultrasound?

20 weeks - Halfway

June 9, 2012
20 weeks

We had a very exciting week!
On Wednesday we got to see our baby on the ultrasound. It was amazing everything from the lips moving, to the bones in the hands, to the times baby liked to do head stands! My Mom was able to come over from island to share this with us. She loved every minute of it, and being her first grandbaby I think she's a bit excited!

Baby PJ's profile -I might be a bit biased, but I think that's the cutest little thing I've ever seen!

Other than feeling tired, I have been feeling really good, a healthy appetite and I'm finally gaining some weight. Sometimes it's hard to tell if I'm tired from the pregnancy or running around with 22 kindergarten kids. My tummy feels like it is stretching and growing, but sometimes I think people don't recognize my tummy as being pregnant, they might just think I had a big dinner.
I am trying to enjoy every minute of this pregnancy, but I can't help it when I find myself daydreaming of what it'll be like when PJ gets here. Of course my daydreams are always filled with birds singing and babies laughing, and I'll keep that picture in my head until reality hits in a few months!

Out for a walk, enjoying the sun!

You know you're pregnant when...

You know you're pregnant when... as soon as you walk in the door you head straight to the washroom to take a pee, and while you are sitting there you decide to take off your shoes (since you can no longer bend over to take them off).

The beginning

MIRACLE

WOW! Can you believe it!
I couldn't!
The night before I took the test, Sheldon had to stay at the hospital to have his sleep monitored, because I was convinced he has sleep apnea (where you stop breathing in your sleep), turns out he's perfect. I didn't sleep well with him away and I woke up early. I was a day late (which is unusual for me) and I decided to take a pregnancy test. I thought in the back of my mind it could be possible, but I had thought that the month before too, so I didn't get too excited. I took the test and left it on the counter and I went and did some chores. A few minutes later I casually went back to check it and I did a double take when i saw a little '+' sign in the stick window. I started crying with emotions. I had all these cool plans on how I would tell Sheldon when the time came, but as soon as I saw that positive sign I had to call him, I could wait! He was so excited!!!
Best Day Ever!!!

That day I bought a lottery ticket to see if my luck would continue... and that evening we had Ryan and Erin and my parents over to watch the Canucks/Leafs game!

*sidenote: I didn't win any money on my lottery ticket, and the Leafs lost, but we sill had the BEST DAY EVER!
